
  Trimethoprim is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections.

Uses
  • Acute urinary infections
  • Trimethoprim + Sulfamethoxazole = Cotrimoxazole is used in respiratory tract infections, bacterial diarrhoeas and dysentery and Pneumocystis jiroveci.
  • With Pyrimethamine - Leishmaniasis, Toxoplasmosis.
Adverse Effects
  • Nausea, Vomiting, stomatitis, headache and rashes.
  • Folate deficiency (megaloblastic anaemia)
  • Blood dyscrasis occur rarely (a nonspecific term that refers to a disease or disorder, especially of the blood).
