Synthesis

  Mebendazole synthesis consists of three steps.

  • Synthesis of Methyl-S-methylthiourea carboxylate

  • Synthesis of 3,4-diaminobenzophenone

  • Condensation of Step 1 and 2




Uses

  • Mebendazole is one of the preferred drugs for treatment of multiple infestations.

  • Heavy Trichonisis (less effective than albendazole)

  • For roundworm, pinworm, hook worm.

Adverse Effects

  • Diarrhoea, Nausea and Abdominal Pain

  • Allergic Reactions

  • Loss of Hair

  • Granulocytopenia
