Procyclidine HCL is an amino alcohol anti-cholinergic drug.
Synonym: Kemadrin, Picidin, Prodine
IUPAC Name: 1-Cyclohexyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrrolidin-1-yl-1-propanol HCl
Synthesis: Mannich condensation takes place. Acetophenone, formaldehyde, and tetrahydro pyrrolidine is taken. Together, the reaction results in beta pyrrolidino propiophenone. To this, Cyclohexane magnesium bromide is added, which results in procyclidine.
Mechanism of Action: Competitively bind to cholinergic receptors and inhibit the action of acetylcholine and other cholinergic drugs.
Uses: Used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

- Blurred vision
- Urinary retention
